Ben adds another destination to our road trip, Smith Rock. I am amazed at how many magnificent sites there are to see in Oregon. Smith Rock was formed about 30 million years ago during the John Day phase of volcanism. The colourful rock layers are probably from highly explosive super volcanic eruptions.

After walking some of the trails, enjoying the beauty of Smith Rock (trying to capture some of it’s splendour in pictures), watching some rock climbers it is time to continue on our road trip.

We get in the car continue and our Oregon  road trip, but quickly find another detour – Peter Skene Ogden State Scenic Viewpoint, again breath taking!

Peter Skene Ogden was born in Quebec Canada. He was an explorer, fur trader, and Hudson’s Bay Company chief trader and factor.

I loved the bridge with the landscape, nothing like mountains as a back drop.
