Iceland has been on my list of must see places forever, for all the reasons everyone wants to go to Iceland, but especially to see the Aurora Borealis. I have witnessed the Northern Lights dancing in the sky here at home, have even enjoyed them while in the hot tub, but I can only imagine how much more vibrant they are in the Icelandic sky.

Despite my desire to get to Iceland, it hasn’t happened yet. Over Christmas I was browsing the internet and came upon this article 2017 is Your Best Chance to See the Northern Lights for a Decade. I sent a quick text with the link to one of my travel buddies and suggested we go for March Break. Within minutes, she checked it out and agreed. We spent the next week texting each other ideas and our “musts” for our trip.

In preparation for Iceland, I thought I should practice taking winter pictures. I mentioned this to a friend while snowshoeing and she replied that she’d love to go to Iceland one day. Now there are three of us Iceland bound, but I was still trying to contain my excitement as we had yet to book our flights.

We picked a night and decided to have a group chat to book our flights, since I was going to be out of town. I was a bit late to the chat (enjoying a delicious meal at Mistura – ps the red beet risotto is a must) and there were already about 20 texts I had to catch up on. Making the decision it would be too long to read and reply I just called. My friends had the flights picked and were just waiting for my ok.

And just like that my dream vacation to Iceland is becoming a reality.
