Today we had a delightful lunch with my cousin’s children at the Turtleback Tap and Grill and afterwards started to travel west heading for home.
As we were driving we were trying to think of a great spot to stop for a couple of hours to break up the trip and stretch our legs. Fredericton fit the bill! It’s the capitol of New Brunswick and is situated along the St. John river. I immediately began researching things we could see and do during our short stop. I commented that not only had we missed the changing of the guard, it had been cancelled due to the heat!
We arrived in Fredericton and walked around the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick.
We continued our walk to Officers’ Square where there was quite a gathering of people and live music.
We walked around, enjoyed the atmosphere and had a delightful conversation with one of the tourism ambassadors. She informed us that we were in luck, the Changing of the Guard had been rescheduled and would be happening in about twenty minutes. Then she asked if I would inspect the guard. Not anything I have ever done before, so why not take the opportunity. It was quite the experience! I was a bit overwhelmed when I saw the size of the crowd that had formed to view the Changing of Guard and when I saw the number of guards! This was quite the experience!
After the changing of the guard we walked to Lighthouse on the Green for some delicious ice cream and strolled along the waterfront trails.
We left Fredericton and drove to Edmunston, N.B. where we spent the night. Tomorrow we will be in Smiths Falls with family and then back home to North Bay.
What a wonderful vacation we’ve had!
